The biggest problem with interactive notebooks has been controlling the glue situation. All of the foldables, graphic organizers etc. all need to be glued in. I felt like I was preparing for war stocking up ammunition for battle. Now enter, the Glue Sponge. I was a little skeptical at first but if one of these sponges would last a whole school year as other teachers claimed, it was worth the try.

The Materials:

Sandwich size containers with lids

Sponges

Liquid Glue (2 bottles per container)

Scissors

I bought two packages of sponges from Dollar Tree (The pack had green and pink in one, so I used two sponges for each container)

The containers were 3 for $1.00

Glue bottles were 2 for $1.00

Step one: Cut the sponges so they fit in your container without overlapping.

Step Two: Pour one bottle of glue into the bottom of the contianer.

Step Three: Insert Sponges into container. Sponges should be slightly moist.

Step Four: Cover the top of the sponge with the other bottle of glue

Step Five: Cover with lid ( make sure it's air tight)

Let sit for One week before use.

Take a spray bottle and mix Listerine/Mouth Wash with water. Spray sponges weekly.

If the top of sponge seems "dry" just flip it over and have the gluier side up.

Have students LIGHTLY press their paper to the top of the sponge and stick to their paper. Sticks and holds every time. No Excess glue! You can add another bottle of glue to the sponge down the road if you feel it running low, but this should last you most of the year!

I also saved my glue caps just to have extras incase one of the other bottles break/get lost/ the floor eats it.
